Powers, also known as passive upgrades, are gameplay enhancements acquired throughout a run in Soulstone Survivors. They allow players to improve core stats, such as damage, movement speed, or critical chance, while also introducing new mechanics like applying negative effects on hit, gaining self buffs, or modifying the stats of specific skills.

Each Power is categorized by its rarity: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, or Special. Higher rarities typically provide stronger or more complex bonuses. While most Powers are obtained by leveling up during a run, the exclusive Special rarity powers are granted through specific conditions, such as defeating a Titan in Titan Hunt or completing a cycle in the Unholy Cathedral; these often grant unique bonuses not available through normal level-up options. Regardless of their source, Powers stack unless otherwise stated, and this combination of stacking and synergy allows for the creation of extremely diverse and potent builds.

Powers also play a critical role in scaling character strength during Ascension. Many Ascension Abilities gain increased effectiveness when supported by complementary Powers.

If the player has unlocked Reroll charges, they can shuffle the set of offered Powers before picking. Banishes allow permanently removing unwanted options from appearing again in a run, regardless of its rarity. Locks enable preserving a desired Power for the next level-up.

Power mechanics[]

How powers are generated[]

When a Power is granted, the game first determines the rarity of the Power using predefined probabilities. For level-up rewards, this rarity roll follows a weighted system, favoring lower rarities more frequently. Once a rarity is rolled, the game selects a Power from that rarity's pool.

Within each rarity tier, all available Powers are equally weighted, meaning each Power has the same chance of being picked. The system does not prioritize any particular upgrade over another within the same rarity.

Special rarities bypass the standard roll and directly offer fixed Special Powers instead. Players cannot lock or banish Special powers.

Conditions[]

While Power rarities are rolled independently of content, specific Powers only become eligible based on your current build. The game checks for conditional requirements, such as debuff applications, skill types, or active buffs, before allowing certain upgrades to appear. This ensures that Powers offered are relevant to the player's current combat style and synergy path.

Status effects[]

Certain powers allow players to apply damaging status effects such as Burn, Bleed, Poison Poison, Doom, and others. These powers may trigger on hit, on critical strike, or upon applying another status effect, depending on the upgrade card's rarity.

One important aspect to note is that the number of stacks applied by a power is determined by the type and rarity of the powers:

  • Common powers that apply effects "on hit" typically apply 2 stacks.
  • Uncommon doubles both the effect strength and number of stacks.
  • Rare powers that apply effects "on critical strike" usually apply 2 stacks.
  • Rare synergies generally apply 2-3 stacks, and may trigger multiple times if the base effect (like Burn) is applied from different sources simultaneously.

The number of stacks is not affected by any damage modifiers, critical hits, or tick rate changes. Only upgrades or effects that explicitly say they increase "chance to apply" will do so.

While in-game tooltips often display a single total damage value (e.g., " Burn +180 damage"), this number represents the combined total from multiple stacks. For instance, "+180 Burn damage" usually indicates that 2 stacks of Burn are applied. So when planning your build, focus on whether the stack counts if go for the scaling skills based on the numbers of stacks, or total damage if go for the instant percentage damage removal skills.
