Unholy Cathedral is a challenging wave‑based gamemode in Soulstone Survivors. It is first released in the August 5, 2024 update (Update 12). The mode features four consecutive combat cycles, each with a unique pool of skills. Once a skill is used in a cycle, it's removed from subsequent selections until that cycle ends. The final cycle culminates in a fight against a powerful boss, Mh'thaeus, the Heretic, before the run concludes.
Gameplay[]
Unholy Cathedral takes place on the eponymous map, Unholy Cathedral. Players must survive a sequence of four escalating cycles, each featuring increasingly difficult enemies and altered skill selection mechanics.
The game starts just like any other gamemodes like Void Fields or Titan Hunt, players are tasked to kill enemies to level up and gain additional active skills. Once all tasks are done, the cycle finishes and players can progress to the next cycle.
Upon completing a cycle, players are granted a choice of an Unholy Power, a stat-boosting upgrade that increases character stats. Players are then presented with a limited pool of skills to choose from. Once a skill is selected during a given cycle, it becomes permanently locked out from future choices for the rest of the run. This forces players to adapt their builds dynamically, favoring versatility and foresight.
After the fourth and final cycle, players must face a powerful boss Mh'thaeus, the Heretic, unique to the gamemode. Defeating the Heretic completes the game. and grants rewards, including materials, soulstones, and rare upgrades. The mode resets daily, encouraging repeated plays with new strategic approaches.
Scaling mechanics[]
The Unholy Cathedral game mode presents players with three distinct difficulty levels to choose from:
Ritual of Sin,
Ritual of Hate, and
Ritual of Heresy. After successfully completing all three of these initial rituals, the Ritual of Heresy difficulty gains an additional Endless mode. This allows its challenge to be progressively increased in increments of +1, pushing players against ever-stronger foes.
The specific stat bonuses applied to enemies within the Ritual of Heresy difficulty and its subsequent Endless tiers are detailed below:
